Cosmetic dentistry can improve your smile and your confidence

Does the appearance of your smile or the color of your teeth embarrass you? Do you ever smile with your mouth closed? Have you ever grown a mustache to hide your smile? If you answered yes to any of these questions you are a candidate for cosmetic dentistry. In fact, anyone who is unhappy with the appearance of his or her smile is a good candidate for cosmetic dentistry. Today’s advanced cosmetic procedures can transform any smile into the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Cosmetic dentistry is dental treatment that improves the appearance and condition of your smile.

Cosmetic dentistry covers a multitude of procedures: from smile whitening to repairing, straightening or replacing teeth. Even the most uneven smiles can be straightened without the need for unsightly, uncomfortable and time-consuming metal braces. Many procedures can be completed in one to three simple visits. Many people are simply amazed to discover the difference cosmetic dentistry can make in their appearance and confidence. Smiles can be rejuvenated, discolored or stained teeth can be whitened, gaps between teeth can be closed, missing teeth can be replaced and other procedures can be done to make your smile the way you want it...

Beverly Hills dentist sinks his teeth into helping 'Iraq stars'

The press release struck me as Hollywood hokum rather than heartland patriotism, but surprisingly enough, it turned out to be a little of both.

A PR firm called the Professional Image was pitching a story on a Beverly Hills cosmetic "dentist to the stars" who would be fixing the teeth of "a different type of star; an Iraq star!"...

What's best way to get high-wattage grin?

Cortadito in the morning. Cabernet at night. A Diet Coke here and there.

Whatever the tasty poison, your smile isn't looking up to snuff these days.

Safe to say you're not without options. Spin your cart down the dental-health aisle. The shelves are practically sagging with at-home whitening gels, pastes, washes, flosses, even herbs. Apparently, worries over tartar and plaque - the buzzwords of the last few years - have gone the way of silver fillings...

Is it finally time for cosmetic dentistry?

While many of us may have appreciated the perfect, white smiles of Hollywood, getting one of our own may have seemed a little vain or financially impossible. Well, there is good news. Dental technologies have definitely changed in the last few years, and the emphasis on aesthetic improvement has brought the art of cosmetic dentistry to the masses. Fortunately for consumers, advanced dental technologies have also brought along better prices...

More people are paying to buff up their pearly whites

As Americans become more willing to invest in their smiles, dentists are building practices that focus less on extractions and root canals and more on cosmetic procedures...

New dental care rules taking effect in Illinois

Goal is to improve children's teeth
Parent Crystal Aubuschon knows the value of good dental work from what she didn't get.

Aubuschon still has the remnants of childhood braces improperly removed from her teeth. She said her teeth have been in poor shape since childhood, and she has insisted on better dental care for her three sons.

So Aubuschon is in favor of the new state law requiring that all children in kindergarten, second- and sixth-grades get a dental exam. The deadline to get the dental exam or schedule one is May 15.

"My kids need to have decent, beautiful teeth," she said. "I don't want them wearing dentures by the time they're 12."

Having a baby? See your dentist

If you're pregnant, you might not be thinking about your teeth and gums. But you should be.

Research has found that pregnant women with poor dental hygiene (who are more prone to periodontal disease) have a higher risk of going into premature labor or having babies with low birth weights...
